- 1 gel paint remover
- 1 large metal scourer
- 1 bowl with a brush
- 1 pair of very resistant rubber gloves
- 1 protective mask
- 1 roll of paper tape
- 1 medium size flat brush
How to remove paint from wood, precautions
Before proceeding with the paint stripping, be sure to operate in complete safety. These precautions are valid for both the use of onechemical paint removerboth for the use of caustic soda forstripping the wood.
- Wear gloves and a mask
- Place the furniture in a well-ventilated room, taking several breaks
- Remove all the accessories that make up the furniture and take it apart as much as possible
- Protect any cracks or crevices with paper tape that will then need to be fixed
How to remove paint from wood with the paint stripper, the procedure
- Pour some gel into the container and spread abundantly on the cabinet with a brush, making small parts at a time: the gel tends to evaporate and dry quickly
- Let it act for at least twenty minutes
- Once this is done, use the scourer to remove the gel, making a fair pressure: the scourer must always be used in the direction of the wood grain so as not to mark the furniture
- Go over the gel several times until the old varnish is gone
- Then continue on every part of the cabinet, drawers, feet included
- Remove the tape after stripping and clean the remaining paint residue with the steel wool.
Which paint stripper to choose?
There are many paint strippers on the market, if the paint to be removed is very damaged and the bare wood is visible between the surface cracks, you can choose a milder chemical stripper. If not, we recommend a more powerful "super paint remover" type product that can also act on lacquered wood.
Paint the wood with caustic soda
Caustic soda is extremely toxic so we do not recommend the do-it-yourself application of this method. Caustic soda is very corrosive: dab it on the paint and leave it to act until it has removed the color. Use a spatula to remove the aqueous solution slurry containing caustic soda and old paint.
How to remove paint manually
The use of sandpaper and sanders can be recommended for flat surfaces, easy to manage and above all not very large.
