TheMilan Expo 2015it will last 184 days and in this period of time, those who want to harvest vegetables can take advantage of the USA pavilion. Americans, as always, go big, so, the United States of America Pavilion will implement a hugevertical vegetable garden where visitors can collect fresh products.
The USA Pavilion for the Milan Expo 2015was designed by the team of the James Beard Foundation and the International Culinary Center. Among other green gems, the United States pavilion will aim for maximum water savings by managing to recover and recycle rainwater and the roof will feature ultra-thin photovoltaics and photo-chromed glass.
The vertical vegetable garden
The United States of America Pavilionit will feature a "green" wall, a vertical vegetable garden with harvestable crops. The wall was conceived as an “overturned field”, the crops will exploit a hydroponic agriculture system mounted on mobile panels that can be easily rotated so as to follow the sun. The irrigation of crops will be satisfied through a rainwater collection and recycling system.
The wall of theUSA pavilionit will want to be an example of urban agriculture. Architect James Biber, project manager, defined the vertical garden as an "educational wall" capable of showing the public an overview of the American agricultural future.
With the vertical vegetable garden, the US intends to introduce American specialties that are little known in Europe.
The interiorUSA pavilionit is inspired by an agricultural farm, a kind of barn with an open layout. The designers plan to install a roof made of super-thin solar panels and photo-chromed glass. Design in the name of environmental sustainability is essential for participation in Expo 2015. One of the requirements is that much of the material used for the construction of the pavilionmust then be recycled. The USA Pavilion project involves the use of a recyclable steel frame and a composite wood floor. The timber from the East Coast walkways will also be used to set up the US Pavilion.
