Italy is a democratic republic founded on work. And on the Environment. L'article 9 of the fundamental principles of the Constitutional Charter leaves no room for doubt: “The Republic promotes the development of culture and scientific and technical research. Protects the landscape and the historical and artistic heritage of the nation ".
Article 1: work. Article 2: inviolable human rights. Article 9: environment. This last value immortalized by the Constitution is like the other essential condition of democratic life, a common and primary good without which there is no state.
But how much is therearticle 9 of the Constitution in the democratic life of our country? How much do we citizens understand the importance of the landscape, cultural heritage and the environment for the very existence of democracy?
We like this recent book (2013) published by Einaudi because it proposes a reading of the Constitutional Charter with thearticle 9 on landscape and artistic heritage. Two cornerstones of which not only the importance in the historical path that led to the birth of our country but also the 'revolutionary' and extraordinarily modern value are underlined.
The authors are four: Alice Leone, Paolo Maddalena, Tomaso Montanari, Salvatore Settis. The volume is present in the Amazon library and can be purchased online: Unfinished constitution. Art, landscape, environment
