The good neighborhood priceless. Also because you do not pay on delivery, it arises spontaneously with the forms of architecture and common spaces, one home with a shared garden where children can really play (not like those to watch only) and natural materials that help them feel good.
A neighborhood house it is safety, mutual aid, affordability and tolerance. It is also a page on Facebook where 20 families from a village messaged each other and post photos of the garden parties: have you ever seen one? Good neighborhood is inventing a way of being together not by ideological choice, but because we understand that it is better.
Good neighborhood it is a bit like the farmhouse it once was. Yes, of course, because in that spontaneous and casual way of living there was actually a meaning in everything. In the farmhouse, one person sacrificed only a small part of their privacy in exchange for help with the heaviest work, others around her reciprocated to have a hand with the children.
Also today good neighborhood it's a home friend. Because the forms of architecture are connected to sociality and influence it, slowly over time, even when the rules of living together are not agreed in advance or written in the deed, and are not technically called cohousing.
They exist today neighborhood houses, simple alternatives to the cohousing, where those who live get advantages if they want without giving up anything. Gianluca and Titti have a seven-year-old daughter and since 2010 they have lived in the ViBRE Village (Green Building Village with Energy Saving) in Casatenovo, in the province of Lecco, a building built with the model of the old farmhouse courtyard. 'We're fine here, period. In all simplicity we were looking for a solution where you could live as well as stay, and in houses we found this building-village '.
How can spaces facilitate a good neighborhood? The creator of ViBRE, Gabriele Galimberti, has created a courtyard building where the living areas overlook and access the common garden, so you can see the children playing; large covered entrances where bicycles and strollers can be left without creating obstacles; extensive use of wood that calms and welcomes just by being there; healthy materials and ecological solutions. Simple fundamentals for a pleasant neighborhood.
How important are shapes and materials in one neighborhood house? 'We like wood - explains Titti - and the fact that there is so much of it at ViBRE can only please us. We find it a warm, comfortable material, man, but don't think ours is a mountain cabin. We have a condensing boiler, solar panels and modern technological solutions, next door we also have an organic social garden, we lack nothing but it is like living in our grandparents' farmhouse.
In neighborhood house there are also rules. The large barbecue in the ViBRE garden belongs to everyone and everyone uses it, almost always together and in any case without forgetting to invite each other. 'The parties are no longer counted: sometimes we organize them among ourselves, especially in summer, others are communions and baptisms where relatives also arrive. A place for the neighbors but there is always, it is a fixed rule. The other day a child fell and hurt his knee, we took him to the home of Enrico who is a nurse and has been living here for six months to treat him.
But how much does one cost neighborhood house? Sociality is a need but so is the wallet, especially these days. There are too many ecological solutions at unapproachable costs, the former farmhouse was also a way to contain costs. 'We didn't spend more to buy an apartment at ViBRE - conclude Titti and Gianluca - and counting what we can save with good insulation and efficient systems, we are sure we have made a bargain also from an economic point of view'.
