Telework transforms offices

The telework? We've been talking about it for years and it's not like things have made great strides. Many entrepreneurs continue to dislike the idea of ​​having empty offices and the slow spread of the internet in Italy has been a limit to remote work. However, the world of work is changing, the network is increasingly performing, and everything suggests that the employees still tied to the office desk will soon be in the minority. The change will also have environmental implications.

According to the Regus company that manages flexible office solutions, 48% of business executives already work remotely for at least half of their working week (according to a study of about 26,000 business executives from 90 countries, including Italy). In Italy, in particular, about half of the managers (47%) work away from the office, in the manner of telework, for at least half a week.

But let's go back to the beginning, the telework do companies like it? Also on this front something is changing and according to Regus research, 45% of the Italians interviewed (55% globally) are convinced that it is perfectly possible to manage a team remotely, provided that the managers receive adequate training; it is no coincidence that a significant portion of the companies interviewed is introducing greater rigor in the management of telework of its staff.

Why the telework you can monitor and manage. 31% of companies in Italy (almost 37% globally) use specific reporting systems to monitor the efficiency of telework, while 43% of managers who work remotely use video calls to communicate with their teams (43% also globally). The telework however, it works if there is trust: according to 41% of companies, this element is crucial.

What about interpersonal relationships? Many of the respondents believe that flexible work in telework it is creating a new kind of interaction between office managers and their subordinates. 23% of respondents believe that remote supervision helps to maintain a more professional relationship, 25% think that young employees are more empowered by telework.

What are the (business) benefits heralded by supporters of the telework? Above all, lower operating costs, then there is also talk of greater productivity and staff loyalty. Increasingly, however, the telework it is a necessity resulting from the new working styles linked to mobility. From an environmental point of view, the idea that the internet would eliminate traffic from the streets turned out to be a bit too optimistic. Undoubtedly, however, the spread of telework it is destined to change the way people travel and with them the share of pollution linked to transport.
