Of mint there are many varieties, wild and cultivated and all emanate in a more or less penetrating way the characteristic scent due to the presence of menthol. There peppermint it is probably the species with the most intense and pleasant scent and for this reason it is also the most cultivated, in the vegetable garden, in the garden and in pots on the terrace.

Features. There mint it is recognized not only by the scent, but by the creeping stem that emits roots at the nodes and then becomes erect. The leaves are oval or lanceolate, more or less narrow and long depending on the species, all however with evident ribs. The flowers are always very small, with the funnel-shaped corolla formed four petals, gathered in whorls, arranged at the top of the stems to form a small spike. The color of the flowers varies from green to pinkish-white to purple. Just before the flowers appear, the mint emanates the maximum of its perfume.
Cultivation in pots. Peppermint can be grown very well in pots on the balcony and terrace, taking care to choose a ventilated and partially shaded position. It adapts well to the climate of the Italian regions and tolerates the cold well. The soil is good for the universal pot type, fresh and loose, possibly rich in limestone and well drained. Reproduction can be done by seed, but it is much easier to divide the tufts in autumn or spring by watering them abundantly until they have taken root.
