Heat pump, advantages

In the articlehow a heat pump workswe have explained in detail the operating mechanism of the heat pump and its different types: water-water, ground-water and air-water heat pump. In this article we will try to examine all of theadvantagesrelated to the installation of aheat pumpsuffering from efficiency.

Heat pump, efficiency

When theheat pumpis combined with a photovoltaic system, all costs related to theheating, cooling and production of domestic hot water. When it comes toefficiencyof heating of oneheat pumpit refers to the valueCOP (yield coefficient)that p is the ratio between the energy produced and that absorbed for the operation of theheat pump. An energy-efficient heat pump produces up to 3-4 thermal kWh compared to a single kWh of electricity absorbed, therefore theyield coefficientwill be between 3 and 4.

Heat pump, advantages

  • High efficiency heating and cooling

THE advantages related to the use of a heat pump there are many, starting with the fact that the same device heats and cools rooms efficiently. Unlike oneboilerwhich simply reheats, theheat pumpit can also be used for summer cooling by reversing the cycle. This possibility reduces the amortization time of the purchase expense of oneheat pump. Betweenadvantagesefficiency certainly appears, as stated, aheat pumpit runs on electricity but the ratio between the kW absorbed and those released in the form of heat is 1: 4, also on the market they are spreadingheat pumpspowered by methane and thanks to photovoltaic technology it is possible to heat, cool and produce domestic hot water at no cost.

  • Maintenance and safety

There heat pump it does not need a dedicated room and, again comparing it to a boiler, requires minimal maintenance and does not require any intervention or annual overhaul. Theheat pumpselectric appliances seem to be particularly safe: they do not require a flue as they do not burn fuel so as to have a reduced risk of fire.

  • Environmental benefits

Thereheat pumpemploys sourcesclassified by lawhowrenewable, for this we speak ofwater-ara, ground-water or water-water heat pumps. It emits carbon dioxide only indirectly, i.e. with greenhouse gas emissions linked to power plants. In addition, theheat pumpsthey can easily be associated with a photovoltaic roof.

  • Costs of a heat pump

We have already said that they are almost completely absent maintenance costs. Speaking of operating costs, the electricity consumption may require an increase in the supply kW but those who do not want to change their contract with the electricity supplier can evaluate the use of a photovoltaic system capable of satisfying the energy needs of the other users and possibly operate one exchange on the spot with Enel. THE installation costscan vary a lot, the highest are undoubtedly those to be sustained for the realization ofgeothermal heat pumps for the drilling and construction of the plant. For air or water pumps, installation costs are much lower and with proper sizing they can be amortized in a relatively short time.
