Volvo S60L PPHEV, the new plug-in hybrid


The number of hybrid cars on the market is booming and the manufacturer Volvo certainly does not remain to watch! On the occasion of theBenijing International Automotive Exhibition 2014the new sedan stood outS60L Plug-in Hybridthat combines the power of petrol with the efficiency of an electric engine.

The concept car presented by the Swedish company is theVolvo S60L PPHEV. The acronym, as already seen with Mitsubishi's Outlander SUV, indicates a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, the initial double P goes to emphasize the word Petrol, we are faced with aPlug-in vehicle with petrol and electric engineand above all it offers high performance.

ThereVolvo S60L PPHEVwill enter the market next 2015, penetrating Chinese markets. The production version will be equipped with a 238 hp Drive E turbo petrol engine alongside a 68 hp electric powertrain. The hybrid system will be able to deliver an output of 306 hp with a torque of 350 + 200 Nm (a total of 550 Nm).

With this hybrid propulsion system, CO2 emissions are reduced to a minimum despite the high performance offered by the car, we are talking about 50 grams of CO2 for every km traveled. This corresponds to fuel consumption of just 2 liters per 100 km.

The hybrid technology that you will see onVolvo S60L PPHEV standard is no stranger to Italians: on the Italian marketVolvoproposes the V60 hybrid plug-in model, the first rechargeable car in the world that combines electricity with power supplydiesel.

The driver can choose, with a simple button, between different driving styles. With the Pure Electric the motorist can travel with zero emissions with an electric range of 50 km. With the livelier mode theVolvo S60L PPHEVit offers such acceleration that the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h covered in 5.5 seconds. Very interesting is thebuttonon board AWD, by activating it the motorist will be able to enjoy four-wheel drive: the front ones driven by the thermal engine and the rear ones powered electrically.

As for the electrical components, theVolvo S60L PPHEVit can be recharged via a normal 230V domestic socket / fuse with an amperage from 6 to 16A. Charging times vary according to the Ampere: a full charge at 10A takes approximately 5 hours, while the times drop to 4 hours if you use a 16A socket.
