Papaya, beneficial properties



There papaya, known as the "melon tree" due to its oval shape that recalls that of the melon, it is a yellow fruit if ripe, green if still unripe and can reach a weight of 5 kg. There is also a variety with white flesh that is used to make fermented papaya.

There papaya it is made up of 87% water and about 13% carbohydrates, fibers, vitamins and various minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus and magnesium. There are carotenoids and flavonoids, powerful antioxidants capable of protecting cells from free radicals responsible for cellular aging: among the carotenoids, lycopene stands out (an average papaya contains 2.5 mg). The rich presence of vitamins including vitamin A, vitamin C (more than kiwi and carrots!) And vitamin P is not negligible: among the vitamins we find riboflavin, niacin and thiamine.
The very low fat and calorie content (about 39 kcal per 100 grams) should also be emphasized. From unripe fruits an enzyme is obtained, papain, a proteolytic enzyme that can be used in cases of digestive difficulties due to its ability to degrade proteins: for this reason it is a fruit that can be safely consumed after a large lunch.

Papaya, healing properties
As we have previously mentioned, the papaya possesses great nutritional properties due to the strong presence of antioxidant vitamins capable of stimulating the immune system: according to experts it has a strong protective capacity against various forms of pathologies.
According to experts, the polyphenols present in papaya sprouts are able not only to slow down cellular aging but also to fight free radicals and perform an anti-tumor function.
Due to the high content of carbohydrates, salts and vitamins, experts consider the papaya an energetic fruit therefore they recommend taking fresh pulp in cases of stress and overwork.
Recent studies have confirmed the effectiveness of the product against intestinal infections and stomach disorders.

Fermented papaya
Compared to papaya fresh, the antioxidant enzymes contained in fermented papaya are enhanced by the fermentation process: according to experts, these enzymes would be able to mitigate the effects of cell degeneration caused by age or by particular diseases such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's.
